Chapter 14

I sat in the doctor’s office twiddling my thumbs because I was very nervous. This morning I woke up violently vomiting again. I had stayed on the bathroom floor for a good twenty minutes. This was not normal, and I was scared out of my mind that I had a bad stomach virus or something. Christmas was just about a week and a half away, so this was the absolute worst time for me to be sick.

The doctor wasn’t sure at first what it could be, but she said she didn’t want to cross off the possibility that I was pregnant. She’d taken some of my blood and she’d been gone for about fifteen minutes. I had no idea what was going on.

I looked down at my phone and was aggravated all over again. Ever since the conversation I had with Jamal yesterday about leaving me out of his beef with Amell, he’d been blowing up my phone with texts. I had to block him because it was getting out of control at this point. I’d blocked him on all my social media sites as well. I didn’t know what his issue was, but he was getting to the point where I was going to have to tell Amell that Jamal kept bugging. And, knowing Amell, once he heard that, the Dolphins could put out a search party for Jamal, but they would never find him after Amell was done with him.

I rubbed my stomach and winced. I wasn’t as nauseous anymore, but I was still so uncomfortable. I really hoped they could figure out what was wrong with me, so I could get a prescription and get on with my life. I wanted to be at the store today, but Toya was holding it down for me. Thank God. I needed to go in tonight, though. A few seasonal pieces had arrived this morning that I wanted to put out.

“So, I’m back,” I heard a voice behind me say, and I turned to see my doctor walking back into the room.

“How you feeling?” she asked me with a small smile on her lips.

“Ready to be over this, whatever it is,” I said with a shrug.

“Well, I found out the cause of all your recent nausea,” she said as she came to stand beside me.

I felt a wave of relief because that just meant I was one step closer to getting over this.

“You’re pregnant!” she said, and my mouth literally fell open.

“I’m what?” I asked, like her repeating it would change what I heard her say with my own two ears.

“We picked up levels of HCG in your blood, which means you are definitely pregnant. Which explains the upset stomach and vomiting you’ve been having recently. Congratulations!” she said, all smiles.

I felt shocked as she gave me the news, but then I started to feel warm inside. My hand flew to my stomach, and I rubbed it slowly. There was a person in there? Well, maybe not a person yet, but a ball of cells that would be a person real soon.
